10V and 5V voltage is supplied by L5973D-based regulators. from Skalbmierz, Poland took some wires from an ethernet cable for connections between Seeeduino and XDR’s main board. After chipping out the tuner’s enclosure plastic and removing the original AC power supply he managed to fit everything inside. He also took a pair of L5973D-based DC switching regulators.Īlan P. Pavel Flégl, a member of CSDXC (DX Club in the Czech Republic and Slovakia), has performed a very neat and cheap XDR-F1HD modification using widely available components: Arduino Nano V3 ($3), levelshifter 5V->3.3V ($1), 2x DC-DC LM2596-based regulator ($2) and switching power supply 12V 2A ($5).Įmel from Góra Kalwaria owns the second XDR-F1HD modded in Poland. The Seeeduino board is placed in an external plastic enclosure. The transistor is inside the 9D shell on the end of a 1.5m screened multicore cable. Paul Foley from England has fitted the Seeeduino board and DC converters internally into his XDR-F1HD. This tuner has also a fan and HD radio switch on the back side. It is equipped with a pair of adjustable power supply modules based on LM2596S, the Seeeduino v3.0 board and satellite antenna switch rated down to 10MHz with relay PCB that accepts logic input level. This is a XDR-F1HD modified by Mike Fallon and Paul Foley from England. Petr says that his antenna switch has excellent performance, high signal isolation and insertion loss less than 0.1dB. The RF switch part is described here, except that he used 75Ω F-connectors. There is also a special box with relays for antenna switching, it is possible to use it manually or with XDR-GTK software. Also looked at ebay and the RF-2200 seems to go for around $200.Petr Vozár from Přerov, Czech Republic added an Seeeduino board along with some connectors on the back side of XDR-F1HD: DB-9 for antenna switching, 3-pin DC for power supply and full size USB socket. Radiointel dot com looks like a nice site for radio enthusiasts. The shortwave bands are broken up into six band segments. Fortunately, I can cover right up to 1700 kHz on mine as there is no "Marine Band" coverage on the RF-2200. The AM broadcast band is covered from 525-1605 kHz. CoverageThe RF-2200 covers the US FM band (87.5-108 MHz). A handle strap facilitates the movement of this hefty receiver. (with batteries installed) and measures approximately 12"W x 8"H x 4"D. RF-2200, Short Wave Double Superhetrodyne." The nearly all-black radio tips the scales at nearly 8 lbs. The radio is labeled as "8 Band Model No. It had incredible abilities to separate adjacent FM stations and make them sound great.Ĭlick to expand.I looked it up and found it here: This popular Panasonic portable from the 70's is considered by many to be one of the best analog portables and remains a favorite for MW DX'ers today. It was one of Sony's last "cult radios" since it had self-adapting bandwidth to give excellent reception on weak signals as well as excellent IBOC reception and great sensitivity on AM. Inside, these two table radios are the same as the Sony XDR-F1HD tuner which now goes for a minimum of about $250.00 (they were blowing them out for $35 when they discontinued it a couple of years ago). I modified my XDR-S10HD with a couple of shielded wires and two female phono jacks to add line-out capabilities (it took about an hour to add line-out jacks to the XDR-S10HD). The XDR-S3HD is more desirable than the XDR-S10HD because it has a line-out jack already installed on it for connection to your stereo. They have really good reception on FM and AM plus they have the advantage of having IBOC (HD Radio) which features multiple channels on many FM stations and pretty interesting AM high-fidelity sound. It gives a clear radio signal with AM and FM antenna. The Sony XDR- F1HD is a high-quality AM/ FM/ HD radio. It is a radio turner built for your musical satisfaction with some of its lovely features. You can find these for < $75.00 and quite often for about $50.00. The Sony XDR- F1HD radio is a well-made turner radio with nice quality, it is quite portable and small and won’t take much space. If you want a great table radio that has basically the same guts as the now-legendary Sony XDR-F1HD, (an AM/FM/AM-HD/FM-HD tuner), you should look out for the Sony XDR-S3HD or Sony XDR-S10HDiP table radios.
